A long workday is exhausting. A long vacation can be too. Is the weather too hot? Too cold? To survive, you need an extra dose of culture. There's no better refreshment than stopping by the best museums in Tartu and Tartumaa before heading home. During the summer in the cultural capital, they're open longer on Thursdays.

From June to August, five museums – the Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum, the Ice Age Centre, the Tartu City Museum, the KGB Cells Museum, and the University of Tartu Museum – are open on Thursdays until 20:24 (8:24 PM), giving visitors plenty of time to explore exhibitions and participate in special events.

Walk, grab a scooter, take a city bike, or hop on a bus. You'll get there anyway. And there you'll find special Thursday events, happy-hour style, highlighting the best aspects and brightest moments of the museums in the European Capital of Culture – tours, hikes, concerts, and more. Everything you need to survive.

From early June to late August. From the Ice Age to the present day. From mammoths to the Olympics. All across the city!

Four museums are participating in the project, but the extended opening hours apply to five different locations:

• University of Tartu Museum in the Cathedral (Lossi 25, Tartu)
• Estonian Sports and Olympic Museum (Rüütli 15, Tartu)
• Tartu City Museum (Narva mnt 23, Tartu)
• KGB Cells Museum (Riia 15b, Tartu)
• Ice Age Centre (Saadjärve 20, Äksi, Tartu County)
